An Address Delivered by the National Coordinator of Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) Comrade Sheriff Mulade to Mark Nigeria's 59th Independence Day Celebration, 2019

Good day to all Nigerians, our respected leaders and my dear friends here gathered. Today 1st October, 2019 marks the Nation's 59th anniversary, an event we

celebrate with joy and enthusiasm every year because Nigeria fought for and got its freedom on October 1,1960 from British colonial rule.

We are also here to appreciate all Nigerians who lost their lives during the fight against Boko Haram insurgents and armed herdsmen amongst others who threaten the nation's security and peace through militancy, kidnapping, hostage taking and other forms of crime.

Although Nigerians had suffered from the cruel activities of the groups named above in times past, we still enjoy national sovereignty in almost all sectors such as politics, education, sports, transportation, business and even our homes, due to the dugged fight of our patriotic forefathers for independence.

As we celebrate this year's independence day nationwide with funfair,

it, no doubt, reminds all Nigerians of the great and selfless efforts of the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the sake of me and you.

After many years of independence, Nigeria is on the track of massive socio-economic, political and infrastructural development. Today, our country is an established democracy known all over Africa and in other parts of the world.

Nigeria is our mother country and we are its citizens. We should always be ready to save her from selfish leaders, as it is our collective responsibility to take our country to higher levels and make it the best in the comity of nations.

Look beyond the little picture, you will see a greater development picture for all Nigerians.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

Happy independence anniversary. Thanks and God bless.

Comrade Sheriff Mulade,

National Coordinator and CEO, CEPEJ.
