Chief Mulade Urges Niger Delta Governors, other Stakeholders to Take Charge of Refineries in Region

...Says it is Disgraceful for Nigeria to Import Fuel from Niger Republic

The National Coordinator, Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Chief (Comrade) Sheriff Mulade has charged the Governors of the Niger Delta Region to take charge of the refineries in the region for their total revamping and turn around maintenance for a full capacity production of refining the Nigerian crude oil ranked amongst the best in the world, into petroleum by-products so as to solve the problem of incessant fuel scarcity in the country.

Speaking with newsmen in Warri on Monday November 23, 2020, the CEPEJ CEO said it is demeaning for Nigeria to import fuel from Niger Republic, judging from the number of years crude oil was discovered in the country, with three refineries constructed to refine crude into its by-products.

Chief (Comrade) Sheriff Mulade, the Ibe-Sorimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom and an environmentalist said the time has come for the Governors in the Region, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Imo, Ondo, Cross Rivers and Akwa-Ibom States to wake up from their slumber and take over the operations of both Warri and Port Harcourt Refineries to service the needs of the Niger Delta Region.

On the best way to actualize the goal of a total revamp of the refineries along with current trends of resource control, the Niger Delta activist urged the Governors to call for a regional stakeholders consultative meeting or summit of well-meaning individuals with integrity and who have the pains of the people of the Niger Delta Region, to discuss, dialogue, plan, strategize on ways to achieve the goal and meet with the Federal Government with a view to obtaining authority as Governors and people of the region to take over total operations of the refineries, and pay taxes to the Federal Government.

Comrade Mulade said the refineries are part of the resources of the regions that should be catered for so that they can work at full capacity to address the purple's employment needs to curb youth restiveness, incessant hike in pump prices and scarcity of petroleum products.

He further charged the Federal Government not to deny Niger Deltans the right and benefit of oil production, and grant the Governors and people of the region the authority to refine petroleum into its products for citizens of the country.
